The hotel has recently changed hands and, while you can be assured that it retains its quirky, romantic atmosphere and English country-house elegance, new luxury details have been added and old ones refreshed.

Several previous guests have suggested that the bathrooms, and showers in particular, are on the small side. They are clean with modern fixtures, however, and most guests find them adequate for their needs.

A light snack menu is served in the sitting room, but the options are limited and, some may find, unimaginative. The room minibar, on the other hand, is another matter entirely; with one reviewer described the contents as Willy Wonka-esque.

There is no safe in the room and, while reception will be happy to store your valuable items securely, you may prefer to keep these close to you.
