Although it’s unlikely that Yeat’s slept at the Sligo City Hotel, the views of Benbulben and Knocknarea that inspired his work also pleased guests.They thought the family run hotel embodied the charm of Sligo Town and liked the traditional Irish feel of the hotel, the clean and comfortable rooms and accommodating and personable staff. Yeats would probably have enjoyed the full Irish breakfast every bit as much as the guests did.
Guests enjoyed the convenience of the Sligo City Hotel, right in the heart of Sligo and close to shops and attractions and found it a great base for exploring the city.
Guests thought that Eugene the hotel barman exemplified Irish charm and hospitality and called him an asset to the establishment. They loved the food, especially the fish and chips, and enjoyed the great crack in the bar.
Guests noted a variety of problems including disappointing breakfasts, small guest rooms, old fashioned showers and even more old fashioned TV sets. Some complained about mould in the bathroom, others thought the decor seemed dated and uninspired. For most guests, these problems were minor and would not prevent them from returning to the Sligo City Hotel.

Noise from the downstairs bar, especially on weekends, was a problem for guests in the rooms above. Fire alarms, set off by revelers, didn’t help matters. Other guests were awakened by the cleaning staff in the corridors.
