Malmaison Reading is easy to access, being that it is located directly opposite the station, so getting to and from this property by train is very straightforward. Also, because it is in the middle of the town, there are lots of shops, restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity.
This hotel does a good job of giving guests a good sense of the history of the building. There is a steam railway theme throughout, which is interesting and unique.
Beds are very comfortable here, and the level of cleanliness is excellent across the whole building.
Everything feels a little dim at Malmaison Reading. Firstly, the décor is very dark and, on top of that, the lighting is generally quite low. It can be hard to read in bed or to do any work. The bathrooms are just as poorly lit, so putting contact lenses in or doing make up is harder than it should be.
Because it is in a town centre location, the hotel does experience external noise, from local venues, traffic and people walking past. Internally, the floorboards can get a bit creaky and some of the air conditioning units are louder than is ideal.
The Wi-Fi can be fairly intermittent at times. When lots of people are logged on it is painfully slow.
