About Granville Hotel

The birthplace of Waterford’s famous son, Thomas Francis Meagher, Granville Hotel is a veritable piece of the city’s heritage. Dating back to the 1700s, this exquisite award-winning hotel by the waterfront oozes old-world style.

The 100 rooms, some overlooking the river, are tastefully decorated in luxury period fabrics and dotted with antiques, evoking a bygone era. They are nevertheless air-conditioned and equipped with modern facilities, such as flat-screen televisions, free Wi-Fi, and safes.

Granville Hotel operates a 24-hour front desk and can cater for events, such as weddings and conferences for up to 200 people.

The well-renowned Bianconi Restaurant has a reputation for high quality contemporary Irish cuisine and lays on an extensive breakfast buffet each morning. There is also an atmospheric bar.

The famous Waterford Crystal Factory and Museum of Treasures can be reached in under ten minutes on foot. The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is just 100 metres away.

Positive Reviews

Exquisite and warm historic atmosphere

Guests love plunging back in time by staying in this historic hotel. The special ambience is fuelled not only by the original architecture and elegant period furniture, but also by the extremely warm Irish welcome by the personnel. They really seem to care about their guests.

Superb standard of food

Eating in the restaurant is an absolute treat, according to guests. The food is found to be excellent and well presented – not just in the beautiful dining room, but also in the cosy bar area. The buffet breakfast, however, is what seems to stand out the most. It is an absolute feast, and guests note there are a wide amount of cooked options, porridge and the city’s speciality bread rolls, Blaas, available.

Great central location

The hotel is situated in a lovely spot just by the waterfront, and is ideally placed for exploring Waterford’s sights, such as the Crystal factory and cathedral. Guests also find the hotel convenient for shopping and are thrilled to have a large car park directly opposite.

Negative Reviews

A tad overpriced

Guests often get the feeling that the hotel is exploiting its fame and charging a bit over the odds for their services. The food and drinks in the restaurant and bar, for example, are on the high side, whilst for the rates paid, many guests expect more spacious rooms than the relatively cramped ones they are allocated.

Traffic noise can be disturbing

Traffic noise can be a bit of a nuisance for guests, especially those at the front of the hotel overlooking the main road. Unfortunately for guests upgrading to rooms with a river view, it is these rooms that are situated at the front of the building, as the waterfront is on the opposite side of the road!

Only one lift.

The lift in the hotel is serviceable but in a hotel of this size you’d expect at least two. If you have mobility issues, you may find yourself waiting quite some time to get up and down each day.
