Positive Reviews

Quality Even For Non-Cowboys.

Smith & Western is an experience that is easy to enthuse over if you are cowboy and western fan, however there were many guests who appreciated the quality of the establishment and were not initially committed to the cowboy cult.

The quality of service and the performance of staff were beyond reproach, this includes the housekeepers. As an example, guests who asked for their room to be ready on arrival as they were travelling to a wedding were told the hotel would put it in first place, and they were as good as their word.

Well Equipped.

Rooms were found to be spotless and guests loved the room's coffee machine and the cowboy boot lamps. A lady guest was impressed by the provision of a magnifying mirror in the room. The proximity of easy free parking close to the town centre was a great advantage. The bar staff mix some marvellous cocktails.

Negative Reviews

Tough Meat.

Steaks were not up to standard, being full of gristle. The fact that only American draught beers are available was a definite negative point for English beer lovers. There was something of a staff shortage at breakfast time. Some of the beds are tired and beginning to sag under the continuous weight of cowboys out of the saddle.

Slightly Off.

The attitude of the duty manager on the day of these guests' departure was totally indifferent and he did not even bother to ask if they had enjoyed their stay.

Well Executed.

All in all this is an out of the ordinary hotel experience, and deliberately so: the quality of the appointments and service make it most acceptable. Very well summed up by the guest who described it as being quirky but not tacky.
