About Amhuinnsuidhe Castle

Amhuinnsuidhe Castle (pronounced 'Aven-suey') is the most westerly castle in Great Britain. It remains a stronghold of the Gaelic language and Celtic culture. With its remote yet tranquil setting, it feels a million miles away from anywhere - yet can be accessed from any location in Europe and, indeed the world. Built in 1867 for the Earl of dunmore, the imposing Scottish Baronial-style castle stands on the north western shores of the Isle of Harris, offering breathtaking views across the Atlantic waters of the Sound of Taransay to neighbouring uninhabited islands. Beyond its own hillside gardens, the Castle is surrounded by 55,000 glorious acres of Trust-owned land - a paradise of steep hills and sea cliffs, white beaches and turquoise seas, remote glens and lochs. A stay at Amhuinnsuidhe Castle enables you to luxuriate in its calming ambience, regain core values of living and leaves you longing to return for more.
