About The Bull & Swan at Burghley

The Bull & Swan at Burghley is a 17th century drinking club, founded by the 5th Earl of Exeter. The historic building is now home to a charming, traditional hotel and restaurant.

Each of the rooms is individually decorated and named after pseudonyms of members of the historic drinking club. Each room benefits from basic amenities including en-suite bathrooms. Some rooms are also dog-friendly.

The Bull & Swan at Burghley is full of history and charm, offering a unique staying and dining experience.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily in the gastro-style restaurant. All food is cooked using locally-sourced ingredients. A range of local ales is available in addition to other beers, wines and spirits.

A number of reviews comment on the excellent quality of food served in the restaurant, from breakfast through to dinner. Guests also seem pleased with the service, describing waiting and bar staff as friendly and helpful.

Great refreshment facilities in bedrooms.

Negative Reviews

Rooms at the front aren’t very private.

Guests who had rooms at the front of the hotel report that rooms do not feel very private. Secondary double glazing seems to be ineffective given the busy road at the front of the hotel. Guests in rooms on the second floor and at the back of the hotel see

No air conditioning in certain rooms.

There doesn’t seem to be any air conditioning in at least some of the bedrooms, and guests comment that when weather is hot, this makes the rooms insufferable. No fans seem to be provided for non-air conditioned rooms.

Some small rooms with small beds.

It seems that there is a wide range across the bedrooms in terms of size. Some guests comment on large bedrooms with large beds, whereas others comment on very small rooms, and some guests questions whether the beds in their rooms were even doubles.
