Positive Reviews

Truly fine dining

The Pavilion Restaurant has garnered a reputation for being one of the finest eateries in the local area This is largely down to Gavin Brown, the award-winning head chef who insists on using local foodstuffs and ingredients for his delectable dishes (Tip: try the 'Pork three ways' – it's out of this world!).

Evocative setting

With its Victorian architecture, immaculate gardens and lovely views over the 'prom', the hotel evokes the spirit of genteel English seaside holidays from yesteryear Take afternoon tea in the conservatory while watching people flurry past in a brief drizzle and you'll feel like you're back in the 1930s!

Attentive staff

The staff here really do bend over backwards when it comes to helping guests enjoy their stay No matter what your request might be, you can rest assured they will dealt with it in a quick, friendly professional manner.

Negative Reviews

Vintage setbacks

Being an old Victorian hotel, it is only natural that the Best Western Royal Clifton has a few vintage setbacks here and there The standard guest rooms for instance are a little on the cramped side, and some of the floorboards are really creaky too.

Noisy nightclubs nearby

Guest rooms at the rear of the hotel are exposed to West Street, an area known for its plethora of bars, nightclubs and kebab houses Unsurprisingly, trying to sleep in one these rooms is not always easy as the noise and commotion generated by these venues often goes on late into the night.

Hard beds

Numerous guests staying in all parts of the hotel shared the view that their beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable If you like a 'solid' base for sleeping then this won't bother you; if you don't though, well; you may want to think twice.
