Positive Reviews

Clean and charming rooms in historic houses

Rooms at The Salem Inn echo the time period that the buildings sit amidst, with charming décor and lovely antiques. Even with the modern TV and Wi-Fi, they provide a olde world ambience and a refreshing change from the standard furnishings found in larger or chain hotels.

A delightful, delicious, and generous breakfast

Breakfast is amply portioned, fresh, and just as lovely as the rest of the inn. It's a great treat to start the morning with, and another nice perk for the place.

Great location for exploring Salem on foot

It's easy to find something wherever you walk, and convenient to get to the trolley tours. The location is also close to ghost tours and historic cemeteries, for those who want to check out some of the more notable aspects of the city.

Negative Reviews

Beds are too hard and not very comfortable

Unfortunately, even though the rooms are pleasant, the beds are not as snugly as expected. The mattresses are too firm for many, and don't allow for a restful sleep. If you're used to a softer foundation, you may want to bring an extra pillow or blanket.

Stairs to upper rooms can be tiresome to navigate

Keep in mind that elevators will not and cannot be in these buildings because of their historic registries. Make sure to tell staff that you prefer or require a ground floor room, if you have trouble with stairs. The steps can also be challenging for heavy or plentiful luggage.

Not all of the staff is friendly and attentive

There's a bit of disconnect between staff, with some being cordial and readily available, and others being less focused and less friendly. You may encounter grumpiness or indifference with some of the employees.
