Set in a true Arctic location, Hotel Lapland Riekonlinna Hotel is nonetheless easy to get to, and offers guests stylish accommodation in one of the most dramatic environments in Europe.

There are a range of rooms available, from standard hotel rooms to two bedroom apartments. All are well-appointed, and feature minibar, satellite TV, telephone and private balcony. Some have private saunas, while the apartments also have fully-equipped kitchens.

Reception can arrange a number of tours in Lapland, including safari’s to view the spectacular, and definitely not to be missed, Aurora Borealis.

The on-site restaurant serves Lapp cuisine, with a strong focus on game and wild caught seafood. The Takka Bar is also on-site and a great place to relax with a drink.

Hotel Lapland Riekonlinna is just a convenient 30-minute drive from Ivalo Airport. The main attractions in the region are the safaris organised by specialised Lapland operators.

Great base for exploring Lapland

Whatever they thought of the hotel itself, all guests agreed that the location was an ideal one to use as a base to explore Lapland. Specifically mentioned were its easy accessibility to airport and train station, the range of services in the village, and finally the presence of safari companies in town.

Great sauna

Perhaps it wasn't really the sauna itself that was special, but several non-Scandinavian guests commented that they loved that the sauna was available. It was especially appreciated after a long and cold day in the snow and ice.

Terrific breakfast

Some guests it seems were expecting the worst when it came to breakfast, but ended up being very pleasantly surprised. They describe the breakfast as ample, tasty and with a wide variety of options available.

Negative Reviews

Wi-Fi is not free

Several guests grumble that the Wi-Fi at the hotel is not free. While they can understand that it does cost the hotel something to offer the service, they feel that connectivity has become such a basic necessity nowadays that it really ought to be included in the room-rate.

Rooms can be a bit cold

Interestingly, quite a few guests complained about the rooms being a bit cold. It doesn't seem the temperature is adjustable in-room, and the central temperature setting is clearly not to everyone's liking.

Some problems with cleanliness

There were too many guests complaining about cleanliness issues for them to be dismissed. While not described as filthy, many guests are unhappy about the state of cleanliness of their rooms on check-in.
