About Playden Oasts Inn

Playden Oasts is a delightfully quirky inn set up in, as the name would suggest, a converted Oast House. The hops is long gone, but in its place are lovely renovated rooms on the outskirts of Rye.

There are a variety of rooms available. Each has been individually decorated and furnished to a high standard, and features en-suite bathroom, flat screen TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee station.

There is ample free parking on site and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The hotel is pet-friendly, with many of the rooms being able to accommodate dogs.

Playden Oasts has two restaurants, one of them even pet friendly. They take enormous pride in using the very best local ingredients from Sussex to create innovative and tasty dishes.

Rye is an ancient town, with some buildings dating back to medieval times. Rye Castle is in a popular attraction, and is in the town centre 1.6 miles to the south.

Positive Reviews

Very good on-site restaurants

The great on-site restaurants were what guests most mentioned when writing positive reviews. For a start, the food was described as top notch, very well presented and with great taste. Secondly, guests really seemed to like the overall atmosphere of the restaurants as well.

Exceptionally friendly host and staff

Again and again guests mentioned that the host and staff couldn't possibly be any more welcoming and helpful. It seemed that nothing was too much trouble for them when it came to making sure their guests had a good stay.

Staying in an oast turret

While of course most of the rooms are not in the turrets, those who did have rooms there just loved the quirkiness off it all.

Negative Reviews

May need some updating

While not mentioned by many guests, some did say that there were rooms in desperate need of an update. They were said to look a bit worn and tired, and guests thought that things could, and should, be greatly improved. It does seem, in March 2016, that at least some rooms have been recently updated.

Some problems in the annexe

Guests mention that it seems that the dog friendly rooms are in the annexe. These are described as somewhat less luxurious, and also possibly smellier, than the other rooms. Guests speculated that this had something to do with being pet friendly, but whatever the reason were unhappy with the state of the rooms.

Rye quite far away

Many guests felt that the centre of Rye was a little far to walk, at least on any sort of regular basis. This meant that if they needed to be in the town centre it almost always meant a trip by car, with the attendant parking hassles.
