Positive Reviews

Diners' Delight

The Irish and international dishes served in both the restaurant and bar of this hotel receive glowing reports from guests, who appreciate the locally-sourced ingredients, in particular the variety of freshly caught seafood. Slick service courtesy of the highly-trained waiting team is the caviar on the crab cake.

Stately Setting

Set on Galway's stunning Atlantic coastline, this country house hotel's location is frequently described as world class. Reviewers are often moved to comment on the elegant 19th Century building, its period decor and its rich history, which includes visits from poets, statesmen and socialites.

Hard to Leave

Travelers love hanging out in the public areas of this abode, with peat fires, period furnishings and comfy seating areas creating a uniquely Irish ambience. The private beach, swimming pool, walking trails and golf course in the 150-acre grounds also make guests want to extend their stay.

Negative Reviews

Mud Bath

This hotel uses fully-treated water from its lake, which sometimes arrives with a dirty looking hue from the peaty lake bed. Many visitors are put off by the water's unclean appearance, but management are quick to assure guests of its purity and benefits to skin.

Gone Wild

This hotel's beautiful grounds would benefit from more regular maintenance. Several guests have complained of floating debris in the pool and boating lake, left by passing storms. Others report grubby and neglected loungers and sports equipment as well as overgrown pathways stained with goose and duck faeces.

Disappointing Digs

Some reviewers find the rooms located in the modern extension of this historic hotel lack the romantic atmosphere and old-world elegance of those in the 130-year-old part of the building. Others have remarked on an accumulation of dust in older rooms and uncomfortable sagging mattresses.
