About Hotel The Cuilfail

Hotel The Cuilfail dates back to 1840 when it opened as a coaching inn, and it carries on its proud tradition of hospitality in the village of Kilmelford, ten minutes’ walk from the shores of Loch Melfort. This inn retains many Victorian features and is found in the Western Highlands, 15 miles south of Oban and eight minutes’ drive away from the Arduaine Garden.

All 12 bedrooms have en-suite facilities with showers — and some baths — as well as tea and coffee-making facilities, and a TV.

Well behaved children and pets are welcome, Wi-Fi is available and complimentary parking is found on site.

The pub at Hotel The Cuilfail offers an authentic atmosphere, lounge and games rooms, bistro restaurant, wines and whiskies, while the Poachers Bar has an open fire, ales and a fine range of spirits.

West Highland Line rail services run from Glasgow to Oban in about three hours.

Positive Reviews

Peacefully located for nature and Oban.

Guests have appreciated the sense of peace and quiet found at The Cuilfail, as well as being close to beautiful nature like the Loch Melfort, and a short drive away from Oban.

Food, beer and character pub.

You will find the quality meals here better than your usual pub grub, and the public bar itself is full of character, with occasional music performances and good ale.

Owners friendly and know area well.

The owners of the inn will prove to be great hosts during your stay, with friendly, attentive service and lots of great local tips.

Negative Reviews

A few small quibbles to note.

While guests did not experience any major issues at The Cuilfail, a few modern-minded travellers found the homely old decor to be dated, the stairs were a little bit inconvenient for some, the Wi-Fi is only available in common areas and the TVs are small
