About Blackness Castle

Blackness Castle is a four star 15th century castle in Linlithgow which was built by the powerful Crichton family. Overlooking the Firth of Forth, the castle had several roles, including roles as a fortress and a prison. The property is open 9:30am to 5:30pm April to September and 9:30am to 4:30pm October to March, and is closed Thursday and Friday from November to March.. Last entry is half an hour before closing. Admission is £5.00 for adults, £4.00 for concessions and £3.00 for children. Historic Scotland members get free entry.

Facilities at the castle include a car park, bicycle racks, toilets, a gift shop and hot drinks dispensers. Dogs are allowed in all areas of the castle if kept under control. Parts of the castle are uneven, therefore some guests may have trouble getting around. The castle has been awarded a Gold Green Tourism award.
