About Joy's

Housed in an historic property that used to accommodate the officers of the Cork Garrison, Joy’s Accommodation offers basic rooms to budget travellers looking to explore the coast around Kinsale.

There are a variety of rooms available, some with private bathrooms, some with shared. They all feature basic furniture and décor, while the family studio also has its own kitchenette.

There is a shared kitchen available for guest use and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

There is no breakfast offered, or other dining available, at the accommodation. Those guests not using the shared kitchen to prepare meals will find some dining options in the surrounding town.

Like many other Irish towns, Kinsale is known for its high quality crafts. With its spectacular peninsula location, the James Fort is well worth visiting. It is 2.4 miles from Joy’s.

Positive Reviews

Short walk to Kinsale town centre

Perhaps the thing that guests most liked about Joy's, the accommodation was said to be just a short walk to Kinsale town centre, where guests could find all the shops, restaurants and pubs they needed.

Reasonable value

Although views were definitely mixed, a small majority could be said to have agreed that Joy's represented good value in central Kinsale, where average prices were said to be very high, especially in season.

Quiet location

Several guests mention that the street the property is on is exceptionally quiet, despite being close to the town centre. So aside from a few who experienced a bit of internal noise, most seemed to have no trouble sleeping.

Negative Reviews

Does not accept credit cards

Unfortunately, like a few other small properties, Joy's does not seem to accept credit cards for on-site payments. Guests mentioned this was an inconvenience, perhaps due to the fact that few people nowadays walk around with large sums of cash on their person. In any event, guests will have to plan ahead and be sure to bring sufficient cash.

Noisy floorboards

There were not a lot of complaints about noise in general, but some did point out that the wood floors, which seem to be used throughout, are perhaps not property laid, and creak as if you were in a haunted house.

Very weak Wi-Fi

It seems that Joy's is a victim of the poor hotel Wi-Fi curse. Guests do not seem to have many good things to say about the Wi-Fi. Those who have an urgent need for connectivity might have to check the 3G and 4G data coverage in the area, and activate data roaming if necessary.
