If you enjoy good quality, traditional English food with plentiful portions then the Roebuck Hotel is the place for you. The Sunday carvery with the choice of four meats seemed to be the jewel in the culinary crown, but there was also lavish praise for the rest of the meals served at this hotel.
The semi-rural location right on the edge of Ashdown Forest was noted to be perfect for those on a peaceful getaway. The large garden with its array of beautiful flowers and ornate fishpond is considered by many to be a tranquil haven to sit and relax while enjoying a drink.
The staff here tend to be friendly and glad to offer great customer service with particular mention being given to the cheerful and pleasant attitude of the bar and waiting staff.
Unfortunately a lot of guests felt the stunning exterior of this property was somewhat let down by the interior. Décor is worn and tired looking and it was felt the whole place would benefit from an overhaul.
The Roebuck Hotel is a very popular venue for weddings, unfortunately according to some negative reviews this can cause disruption to an otherwise enjoyable stay. Long delays at check-in, dining room being unavailable as it had been booked for the wedding party and loud noise and music throughout the night were some of the issues that were reported.
Some guests noticed an unpleasant odour of damp in the hallways and in the bathrooms, which also had mould. The general standard of cleanliness in the bathrooms and the poor quality of towels provided was considered to be sub-standard.
