VR Auckland City is a modern, four-star extended-stay hotel which offers studio and one and two bedroom apartments in Auckland’s central business district. All the apartments are self contained, featuring city views and a full kitchen that includes a stove top, oven, microwave and dishwasher. The rooms are also air conditioned and equipped with free Wi-Fi, TV with digital channels and double glaze windows. There is a laundry and some apartments also include a balcony. On-site, secure undercover parking is available at a surcharge. The front desk operates 24-hours a day and offers luggage storage. A complimentary continental breakfast is offered each morning. Local cafes and restaurants are within easy walking distance. VR Auckland City is within ten-minutes’ walk of several attractions including the Queen Street shopping district, Auckland Town Hall, the Aotea Centre, Sky Tower and the Auckland Convention Centre.

The apartments are within easy walking distance to the city centre, the waterfront and to a choice of restaurants, shops and bars. Public transport is easily accessible and attractions such as the Sky Tower and the bustling Queen Street area can be reached within ten-minutes' walk.
Guests reported that the apartments are well equipped with all necessary amenities for a short or long term stay. The kitchen includes a full-size fridge, stove top, microwave and cookware as well as the convenience of a dishwasher and washing machine.
Guests reported that many of the rooms offer beautiful views of the harbour, waterfront and Sky Tower.
Guests reported that the apartments are not cleaned reliably or to an adequate standard and rooms were often found to be dirty on arrival. Various complaints were made, including that the bed linen had not been changed from previous guests, the walls were marked the carpets dirty and unvacuumed and at times mould was found growing in the bathroom.
Guests complained that the rooms were not always as advertised and the hotel does not deserve a four-star rating. The facilities are basic and some apartments are smaller than shown in the website photos. Guests complained that Sky channels were not always available as advertised, and the Wi-Fi is slow and connection is not guaranteed. Also some apartments overlook the car park and thus don't provide the promised view.
Guests reported that while a complimentary breakfast was provided, it was more of a light snack than a substantial breakfast and also of poor quality. The breakfast consisted of packaged food that was delivered in a plastic bag the night before.
