It has to be said that the hotel really has been very sympathetically renovated. Indeed, the classical décor, dark woods and period features all help to make you feel like you've been transported back to the glory days of Britain's locomotive past.
positive:
Location couldn't be better.
The city centre - and that glorious cathedral - are only a brief walk away while the train station (itself recently renovated) is literally just across the road. Despite this though you can hardly hear the trains coming and going at all when you're in the

Negative Reviews
negative:
Hotel feels a bit stuffy at times.
This has nothing to do with the traditional Victorian surroundings but is instead a reflection on the lack of effective air-conditioning. Stay here during a hot spell and you'll soon find it hard to maintain any kind of stiff upper lip.
negative:
No lift up to the first floor.
It's a Victorian building so you'll have to be prepared to tackle the stairs whenever you want to venture out of your room. Fine if you're fit and healthy but a chore if you're anything but...
negative:
Weekend functions can be noisy.
The hotel is a popular wedding reception venue so it is common to hear party music emanating from the function rooms until around 23.00 on Saturday evenings. Be sure to bring some ear plugs if you're an early-to-bed type.
