Positive Reviews

You’ll get on very well with the owners

The proprietors and staff at Balmore House are really friendly and approachable You’ll find them to be polite at all times, they will help you out with any requests you may have and will also happily just engage in a conversation with you, if you feel like a chat.

The presentation is excellent

The guestrooms are very clean, nicely decorated and comfortable The building is a beautiful Victorian property.

It’s in a convenient location

The centre of Edinburgh is about 15-minutes’ walk away from the hotel, meaning everything is close by If you don’t fancy walking into town, then there is a bus stop just up the road.

Negative Reviews

Getting to breakfast might involve going outside

Balmore House is set across two buildings, so you may find that you have to cross the road to get to the dining room, depending on which house you are in Another gripe is that the breakfast portions are not the most generous, so if you have a big appetite, you might not be satisfied.

Bathroom visits are slightly inconvenient

While some rooms are en suite, others have private bathrooms which are situated outside the room It’s not a major issue but might be a little annoying if you get up frequently in the night.

You’ll hear everything that is going on

The walls at this hotel are very thin, which will likely mean that you’ll be able to hear every word if the people in the next room are having a conversation.

The TV is hard to see

You might struggle to watch television, not because the picture is bad, but because in some rooms the actual TV set is positioned in a way which makes it hard to see from the bed.
