Positive Reviews

Excellent location for seeing Dublin on a budget

The hostel is in a prime location for touring the city on limited funds Smithfield and Christchurch are less than 30 minutes by foot, and there's no shortage of markets, pubs, and entertainment to discover Dublin Airport is a 25 minute bus ride away, with the nearest stop right next to the hostel.

Cheap place when you need somewhere to crash

When the post-match festivities have ended and the pubs have closed, this is a good place to get a bed and bathroom The basic accommodations and cheap cost are perfectly suited for when you need a last minute room.

Nice staff and a chance to meet fellow travellers

Staff are pleasantly mannered, share local brochures and info, and give tips on where to economically shop The hostel is a nice base for meeting other travellers, sharing experiences, and getting to know insider sites of interest.

Negative Reviews

Thin walls don't block any noise between rooms

Sound definitely travels here, and pretty much every noise comes through the walls and floors You're advised to bring ear plugs, and be aware of how loud you say or do anything.

Heating doesn't work and windows are damaged

The heat is inconsistent or won't come on at all, and the windows are cracked or won't close Make sure to have extra woolly socks and pullovers.

Dirty rooms, broken beds, and unsanitary bathrooms

The harshest complaints about Backpackers D1 Dublin concern its room conditions Beds have broken legs and loose screws, and the sheets and covers still bear stains and clear signs of use Bathrooms are marred by odours, unclean floors and fixtures, mould, hair in the sinks, and no toilet rolls Drainage is also poor, making it difficult to fully get rid of the previous user's water.
