About Millennium Stadium

The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff opened in June 1999. It is the national stadium of Wales and home to the Wales national football and rugby union teams. It is also used for other large sports events and music concerts. Music artists that have performed here include Madonna (twice), the Rolling Stones, U2 and Bruce Springsteen.

The total cost of construction was £121 million and it was completed in time to enable Cardiff to host the Rugby World Cup in 1999.

It has a seating capacity of 74,500 and has a fully retractable roof. At its time of construction it was only the second stadium in Europe to have a retractable roof. The central area of the stadium includes a grass pitch that measures 120 × 79 metres (390 × 259 feet).

Millennium Stadium plc, which is a subsidiary of the Welsh Rugby Union, are the current owners of the Millennium Stadium.
