About Hotel Meurice

Hotel Meurice is set in an imposing former 18th Century Post Office in the heart of Calais; just four-kilometres from the ferry port and six from the Eurotunnel terminal.

Rooms are decorated in a classic French style boasting satellite TV, hospitality tray and quality bed linen. While all have en-suites, the upgraded rooms have Jacuzzi baths.

Free parking is available opposite, although a private underground car park is also available, for a fee. The hotel has a lounge and bar area and expansive private gardens with Wi-Fi available throughout.

Breakfast is served buffet-style in the conservatory; with continental and cooked options available, or as room service. The neighbouring Restaurant La Diligence comes highly recommended, and offers a traditional French cuisine in a cosy, atmospheric setting.

Hotel Meurice is a five-minute walk away from the beach and a ten-minute walk from the Gare de Calais-Ville Train Station and the stunning Town Hall.

Positive Reviews

Excellent location in Calais.

The hotel is ideally situated for onward travel; with the train station, ferry terminal and Eurotunnel terminals all within easy reach. Despite its central location, the hotel is surprisingly quiet yet also incredibly convenient; with secure underground parking available.

A charm of its own.

With its quirky contrasting patterns, sweeping staircase, antique furniture and the odd nude painting, some guests might find the unique décor a bit chaotic. Most, however, feel that the elegant, classic décor all adds to the charm of the historic building.

Choice of breakfast in a beautiful setting.

Both continental and cooked breakfast items are available at the buffet breakfast, as well as freshly squeezed orange juice and all manner of hot drinks. The setting, in the conservatory looking across the hotel gardens, is a popular one with guests.

Negative Reviews

Rooms may vary.

As you might expect from a historical building, no two rooms are alike. Room sizes vary and, while some have baths in their en-suites, others have showers. Previous guests recommend speaking with the hotel prior to your arrival if you have specific requirements.

Standards of cleanliness could be improved.

Some previous guests have questioned the levels of cleanliness at the hotel; reporting bed issues, dust and unsanitary floors.

Faded elegance.

The hotel was, clearly, once a grand place to lay your head but, some guests suggest that some degree of refurbishment is necessary to bring it back to its former glory. The exterior of the hotel, in particular, requires some attention as, in its current state, it makes a rather poor first impression.
