About Buckingham Hotel

The Buckingham Hotel hotel is located in the spa town of Buxton, right opposite the Pavilion Gardens. In addition to it's prime location, this 130-year-old hotel also has a highly regarded bar.

Each of the hotel's 35 traditional style bedrooms comes with a private bathroom. 20-inch TVs, direct dial telephones, and tea/coffee making facilities are all standard features.

The hotel has an impressive collection of books, maps and walking guides available to purchase or borrow. On-site parking is available free of charge and complementary Wi-Fi is provided throughout the entire building.

The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, however plentiful meal options are available nearby at the Pavilion Gardens, Old Hall Hotel and Wetherspoons pub. The hotel has a very convivial bar (Ramsay's Bar) which proffers cask ales, spirits and draught lager to locals and guests alike.

Buxton's famous Opera House and the town centre are a five-minute walk from the Buckingham Hotel.

Positive Reviews

Ramsay's Bar is a real find

Named after a local artist who once lived in the Buckingham, Ramsay's Bar is an almost idealised drinking den, full of friendly locals, cheery guests and, of course, top drawer ales Honestly you couldn't pick a more relaxed, affable place to unwind; a real find.

Surroundings are timeless

Having the Pavilion Gardens right outside the door is a real bonus This handsome public park has a very genteel, Georgian feel to it Indeed, strolling around its winding pathways and sitting with an ice cream on the deckchair-clad promenade makes you feel like you've gone back in time.

Lovely roll-top baths

Some rooms have glorious, standalone roll-top baths in them Suffice to say, having a good long soak in one of these bad boys at the end of the day feels like a truly decadent treat!

Negative Reviews

Décor is a little dated

Although its clear to see some attempt has been made to refurbish the building and modernise the interiors, you cannot help but notice how dated some of the décor looks Truly, there is only so much 'floral' you can take.

Quirkiness may not be to everyone's taste

Some guests will undoubtedly find some aspects of this hotel a touch too unconventional for their liking Aspects like the naming of the guest bedrooms (the Bruce Willis suite; the Demi Moore room, etc); the magazine covers on the walls, and the general offbeat nature of the owner, may well irritate visitors who are used to staying in more ubiquitous lodgings.

But this doesn't spoil the overall impression

If dated interiors and quirky surroundings don't bother you that much, chances are you'll enjoy staying at the Buckingham as there isn't really much else of a negative nature to highlight here.
