About Birmingham Central Backpackers

Located right in the heart of the city, Birmingham Central Backpackers is just a short walk from both the National Express Coach Station and the Bull Ring shopping centre. Bright interiors, free snacks and friendly common rooms complement the hostel's convenient location.

Guests can stay in simple, dormitory-style accommodation or private rooms complete with TVs and tea/coffee making facilities. Some rooms have en-suite facilities.

In addition to an outdoor patio area, Birmingham Central Backpackers has a self-service kitchen, a library and a funky common area where residents can chat, play video games and watch films. Free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout.

A complementary light Continental breakfast is served in the common area and a modest evening 'snack', such as pizza, soup or hotdogs, is made available most evenings. Drinks are available from the on-site bar.

Birmingham Hippodrome and New Street train station are both less than ten-minutes’ walk away.

Positive Reviews

Interiors are anything but dull!

As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted to mobiles hanging from the ceiling, technicolour walls, and lights and stars glowing all over the place It may be “visual overload” to some but, in these surroundings, it actually works really well.

Pod dorm' is a step up from traditional hostel bunk rooms

Although it costs a few pounds more than a standard bunk dorm, the 'Pod dorm' is worth the extra outlay as you get your own light and curtain to engender a modicum of privacy You're still sharing the room with others, it just doesn't feel like you're 'co-habiting' as much.

Very handy location

Staying here allows you to save your pennies on public transport as the hostel's central location ensures you are rarely more than strolling distance away from most of the city's best shops, bars, pubs, sights, museums, theatres, music venues and clubs.

Negative Reviews

Neighbourhood isn't the most appealing

Tucked away down an isolated side street in a semi-industrial part of deepest, darkest Digbeth; Birmingham Central Backpackers doesn't really convey much in the way of charm Arriving late at night isn't recommended for visitors of a nervous disposition.

Some guest rooms are in a different building

Rooms 6-20 are housed in 'Building Two', an associated yet geographically separate accommodation block located nearby Needless to say, having to walk to a different building (and back again) every time you want to have a natter in the common room or cook up supper in the kitchen isn't the most convenient of arrangements.

Continental' breakfast is a bit limited

Does leaving a couple of Tesco Value loaves next to a toaster and a few spreads on the reception table really constitute a Continental breakfast serving? Still, it is free.
