Positive Reviews

Basic but clean dorms and rooms

Rooms and dorms at Lagan Backpackers are definitely on the basic side, perhaps more so than in other hostels. However, guests find they are clean with reasonably comfortable mattresses. Plus, the Wi-Fi appears to work well as there are few complaints in this area.

Good on-site facilities

Previous guests have been happy with the selection of facilities on offer here. The shared kitchen and dining room are found to be of a sufficient size and the lounge with the movie projector is a nice spot to relax and mingle with other travellers.

Good value for money

Guests appreciate the 24-hour free tea and coffee and the free English breakfast. And there's free Internet and parking if you need it. All things considered, you get a fair bit for your money here, especially considering how close the hostel is to Belfast city centre.

Negative Reviews

Bathrooms could be better

As with many hostels, the bathrooms here could be improved. Guests mention the usual problems of sharing with so many other people but also specific issues such as a limited number of toilets/showers and poor water pressure in the first floor showers (ground floor seems better).

Some noise issues

Although this hostel requests quiet by 11pm, it seems that guests do not always take any notice. A number of reviews indicate that the noise levels can be high. Noise can be heard from adjacent dorms, from nearby shared bathrooms and from outside the property, so avoiding the issue seems unlikely.

Standard of service varies

There seems to be a fairly steady stream of different staff working at this hostel (while on their own backpacking journey). As a result, the standard of service can vary considerably. Several guests have found the property a little disorganised with haphazard policies.
