About The Lilacs

The Lilacs is a small, family run bed and breakfast guest house.  It is within easy reach of many Derbyshire and Staffordshire attractions, including Alton Towers.

Comfortably furnished en-suite rooms include colour television, beverage making facilities and hairdryer.  There is, alternatively, a self contained cottage offered for hire.

Communal facilities at The Lilacs include a relaxing residents’ lounge and ample car parking to the rear of the guest house.  Wi-Fi is also available.

Breakfast choices are served in the dining room and for later lunch and dinner; there are a number of traditional pubs within a 10 minute walk.  Ashbourne, though, isn’t short of food and drink establishments, with The Cock Inn, Cafe Impromptu and The Station Hotel featuring on a quite extensive list.

Only a mile or so from Ashbourne; the Derbyshire Dales are easily accessed from this attractively located guest house.

Positive Reviews

Friendly welcome.

Setting the tone for the rest of the stay, there is a very friendly welcome from the host who is more than happy to advise on places of interest to visit and good value places to eat.

Bumper breakfast.

It’s not just the quantity of breakfast that impresses, but the quality and presentation. Breakfasts here will long be remembered.

Trouble free parking.

This is a very small B+B so not likely to be swamped with a rush of new visitors. Parking is trouble free; plenty of room for everyone.

Negative Reviews

A turn off not to be missed.

Parking is fine; it’s just the difficult access to it that can take you by surprise as you approach the B+B from the main Leek to Ashbourne road.

‘And in the evening when the lights are low’….

(A line from Ivor Novello’s, ‘We’ll Gather “Lilacs”) … that’s when you really notice the noise from the busy Leek to Ashbourne road! Best to get a room at the back, if possible.

Little room quibbles.

Shower accumulated mould and a lack of net curtains reduces privacy. Small negatives in a stay far outweighed by positives.
